The Sound of Silence Volume 1
Teesside arts organisations, Tees Music Alliance and ARC, have teamed up to present Stockton’s first multi venue Folk and “Alt” Folk festival – The Sound of Silence” - on Saturday 12th September.
Spread over several venues including ARC’s Point and Studio and TMA’s Georgian Theatre and Green Room – this year dubbed as The Sound of Silence Volume 1 – will feature a wonderful mix of contemporary and traditional folk music.
Based on a programme pioneered by TMA’s Ben Muriel at his Saltburn based events; The Sound of Silence is an event where listening to music is the prime motivation – with audience chatter and noise kept to a minimum.
The festival will welcome a clutch of Mercury Music Prize nominated artists including John Bramwell (I Am Kloot) Eliza Carthy and Kathryn Williams. The event will also feature the award winning RM Hubbert plus Barry Hyde, Rachel Newton and Bridie Jackson & The Arbour – with more artists yet to be confirmed.
The festival will also feature an informal programme of live music in ARC’s café space “No 60” as well as sessions in Stockton’s newest real ale bar, The Wasps Nest.
