NE Volume Magazine Second Birthday

ARC (Stockton Arts Centre), Stockton-on-Tees

This event has been and gone.

One of the North East’s leading music magazines, which allows regional music fans to keep up-to-date with what’s going on in the region, is set to celebrate its second anniversary by putting on a real showcase for North East music fans to get excited about.

NE Volume magazine will be hosting a 7-band event with a capacity of 550. This makes the event the biggest gig the magazine have organised so far; and it’s been set up to bring the music community together.

Frankie & The Heartstrings

Frankie & The Heartstrings appearing at this event

North East indie five-piece, led by former Sunderland pub landlord Frankie Francis, who formed over a mutual love of the Housemartins and the Smiths. Think of these classic bands, combined with influences ranging from Orange Juice to Dexys Midnight Runners, Bobby Conn and Billy Childish, then add the Sunderland accents of the Futureheads or Maximo Park. Finally, complete with a hair quiff modelled on James Dean, some quivering hips and a gyrating bottom, and you've got The Heartstrings.

The Lake Poets is one man from Sunderland called Martin Longstaff. Described as 'stunningly affecting and haunting', the music of The Lake Poets incorporates delicate finger-picked guitar, gorgeous melodies and moving, intelligent and thought-provoking lyricism. Martin's vocal is hauntingly beautiful and his honest and personal songwriting has created a buzz too strong to be ignored by the likes of BBC Radio1 and 6 Music.

Boy Jumps Ship

Boy Jumps Ship appearing at this event

A four piece Rock band from Newcastle. "...Maturity beyond their years, enigmatic sound bites nestled between soaring refrains that wouldn't disgrace Biffy Clyro". - Kerrang! Boy Jumps Ship have gained a reputation for their energetic, passionate and exuberant live performances up and down the country and around Europe. Touring with the likes of Only Rivals, Young Guns, Arcane Roots and We Are The Ocean to name a few, as well as the UK leg of the 2015 Vans Warped Tour, audiences found themselves instantly connecting with their unavoidably addictive, massive melodic choruses and heavy-hitting riffs.

Glass Caves

Glass Caves appearing at this event

Pontefract four piece, Glass Caves, fuse agitated rhythms, yo-yoing guitars and dissonant keyboard sounds with vocals that splinter then soar through their songs. They come at you like a band channelling the spirit of American alternative bands, such as Local Natives and Fleet Foxes, through a very British filter to produce perfectly formed morsels of ballsy alt-rock.
