Festival Of Patterns

Join local textile designer Sarah Burns to celebrate the visual diversity and particularity that makes Steyning such a special place. Be inspired by very distinctive patterns – natural, man-made, ancient, accidental and sometimes overlooked – that can be discovered all over the town.

This workshop needs you to share your special patterns – any local detail which you especially love and enjoy. You can bring your ideas along on the day or share them on Instagram or Twitter using the ‘#steyningpattern’ hashtag.

In the workshop, you will be sharing our patterns and making your own Steyning-inspired designs, which will then be transferred onto bags for you to take away.

At the same time, you will also be making a whole community pattern by joining your individual designs into a larger creation, with which they hope to decorate the Festival Big Top! Families are welcome to this event.

If you need to fetch children from school, please do feel free to rejoin once you have collected your children (kids are free!)

Sarah is a designer and patternmaker as well as a commercial printer with her own brand Dora Fabrics. Her previous work includes the World Map of Patterns, community indigo-dyeing projects and a range of furnishing fabrics for the Virginia White Collection. She lives in Steyning.
