Cardboard Citizens: ‘Cathy’
By Ali Taylor

Following its 5-Star hit run at the 2017 Edinburgh Fringe Festival, in association with St. Petroc’s Society, Cathy comes to Cornwall, as part of a campaign to end homelessness in the region. Cathy tells the story of one woman’s fight for her home, her life and her rights.

Settled …. Until suddenly you’re not…

Candid, poignant and intimate, award-winning playwright Ali Taylor's critically acclaimed play ?is a powerful and timely reflection on the social and personal impact of spiraling housing costs, gentrification and the challenges of the forced relocation. Cathy tells the story of one woman’s fight for her home, her life and her rights.

Exploring resonances in today’s society with the story told in the ground-breaking Ken Loach film, Cathy Come Home, 50 years ago, Cathy is directed by Cardboard Citizens' Artistic Director, Adrian Jackson.

The performance will include an interactive style debate in classic Forum Theatre style.
Forum Theatre is a style of theatre that empowers the audience to change the outcome and have their say on one of society’s most topical subjects today meaning every performance will be a completely unique experience.

Audience members will be encouraged to suggest different actions and outcomes for the narrative, helping to actively engage with the issues that the plays presents and change the course of the character’s lives.

And, don't worry! Audience members can be as involved as they decide, whether choosing to get up on stage and act themselves or just sit back and watch as the story is rewritten in front of their eyes.

This revival of Cathy features its original acclaimed cast: Alex Jones, Amy Loughton, Cathy Owen and Hayley Wareham.

All proceeds from the performance will go to St Petroc’s Society.

“Our mission is to provide accommodation, support, advice, training and resettlement services to single homeless people in Cornwall. Within resources available, we strive to provide the best quality of services possible. Our primary aim is to provide these services to people aged 16 - 65 for whom no provision is made within the community, either statutory or otherwise.”
