To begin at the beginning: It is spring, moonless night in the small town, starless and bible-black...
Thomas' celebrated "Play for Voices" is a masterpiece - detailing the trivia, dreams, desires, imaginings, and just plain life of a small Welsh fishing village "of no particular significance" on one Spring Day. The play has fascinated audiences for well over half a century, partly because of its poetical nature, but also because of its subject matter, which takes us below the surface of people’s lives and gives us glimpses of their inner lives, their hopes, dreams, loves, hates and ambitions.
We are presented with a wide range of larger than life characters, from Mr. Mog Edwards, a draper “mad with love” for Myfanwy Price (though the two never meet) to Mr. Pugh, the schoolmaster, who reads “Lives of the Great Poisoners” and dreams of poisoning his domineering wife.
We can promise you a delightful evening, full of fun and laughter, but with the occasional sad twinge as we realise that there is also a sense of loss and unfulfillment. Presented by the Southwick Players.
