To celebrate 20 years of bringing the best in contemporary jazz to Southport, Southport Melodic Jazz are staging a whole day of jazz at The Royal Clifton Hotel on The Promenade on Sunday, 19 June 2011. At 2pm, the joyful, inventive, hard swinging sounds of North West band The Magic Hat Ensemble will open proceedings and tickets are £12. Captivating young Manchester vocalist Alice Zawadzki and her duo will entertain at a £15 carvery dinner from 5pm - 7pm. The main event of the day will be the sublime music of The Impossible Gentlemen, four internationally recognised jazz geniuses - Gwilym Simcock on piano, Manchester’s Mike Walker on guitars and U.S. greats Steve Swallow on bass and Adam Nussbaum on drums. That concert starts at 8pm and tickets are £21. Concert goers are then invited to stay late and enjoy some more music from club pianist Frank Garner and Alice’s trio with Stuart McCallum on guitar and Nick Blacka on bass, and tickets will be £4.
