This event has been and gone.
They’ve brewed their own beer, recorded versions of the theme tunes of the Archers and the Simpsons at the request of its producers, not to mention winning a string of awards.
More than a decade on from their beginnings as an experimental one-off project at the first Oxford Folk Festival however, acclaimed folk band Bellowhead have announced that they are calling it a day.
The 11-piece announced that they will mark their departure with a two-part farewell tour in November 2015 and April 2016.
The band’s final show will take place on May Day 2016 and will be an intimate concert at Oxford Town Hall, the venue where they began.
Since their formation in 2004 Bellowhead have occupied a unique place in Britain's musical landscape. Wild, joyous, perverse, bold, crazy, full-blooded, intricate, fearless, funny, epic and mostly BIG, the mighty 11-piece Bellowhead blend folk, jazz, classical, disco and world music influences with English music and cabaret to stunning effect. Playing more than 20 instruments between them with six vocalists, they deliver a heady brew that defies categorisation and have placed themselves at the cutting edge of the contemporary music scene while harnessing all the power and mystery of ancient English and European musical traditions.
