The Glass Menagerie
'I will rise - but I won’t shine'
Two hours' sleep, coffee, cigarette and Tom’s back at the warehouse. At home, his mother despairs. Her daughter Laura is worryingly single and growing more strange by the day. Tensions are reaching breaking point and their cramped apartment isn’t big enough for the three of them.
When Tom brings a work colleague home for dinner, Laura realises she knows him all too well.
A lyrical portrait of a family running from reality, The Glass Menagerie explores the human capacity for hope against all the odds.
Designed by Ultz (Olivier Award winner, Jerusalem) and directed by Nuffield’s Director, Samuel Hodges. Written in 1944 and partly based on the author’s own youth, The Glass Menagerie is considered one of the great plays of the 20th century.
