Aldeburgh Festival: The Young Person’s Guide - Family Concert: The Hallé Orchestra
Britten - The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra
Britten wrote his Variations and Fugue on a Theme of Henry Purcell as a way to introduce children to the instruments of the orchestra and the piece has become one of the most popular orchestral works of the 20th century, known primarily by its subtitle, The Young Person’s Guide to the Orchestra.
If you have ever thought about bringing children to a concert, this is your chance to bring them to perhaps the most exciting introductory piece ever written, performed by one of the UK’s best-loved orchestras and conductors in a very short, family-friendly event.
Founded by the pianist and conductor Sir Charles Hallé in 1858, The Hallé is the UK’s oldest working orchestra (and the fourth oldest in the world). The Orchestra ranks among the UK’s top symphonic ensembles. Led by Sir Mark Elder, The Hallé is the resident orchestra of Bridgewater Hall.
