Aldeburgh Festival
In the first of their two weekend residency concerts, Quatuor Mosaiques pitch straight into baroque music and the wonderful improvisatory air of Purcell’s Fantasias for viol consort as a prelude to the richness of mature Haydn. Schubert’s monumental final quartet finds solace amidst the tumult, as the ailing but still young composer obsesses on an extraordinary torrent of musical ideas – chamber music on an epic scale.
