Bernard Shaw's witty play, stripped of the elaborations of My Fair Lady, reveals his original themes of feminism, social circumstances and the British class system from the early twentieth century. It has been termed a 'transformation satire'.

However, in creating 'Eliza the duchess', Higgins finds that in spirit she is still the same feisty flower girl of Covent Garden and maybe, just maybe, he has finally met his match. Could it be that he is the one who has changed the most?!
