Kathryn Williams released her debut album Dog Leap Stairs on her own label Caw on a budget of £80. Her second Little Black Numbers was nominated for the Mercury Music Prize.
Crown Electric, her 2013 album, includes the single Heart Shaped Stone, described as 'a record about how time matters. It's the most precious thing we have.'
It is both confirmation and summation of her songwriting skills, and illustrates that her lyrics have never been more astute, her melodies more memorable nor her arrangements more beautiful. Kathryn’s new album ‘Hypoxia’ is inspired by Sylvia Plath’s The Bell Jar (commemorating its 50th Anniversary).
Praise for Hypoxia: ‘By inhabiting and responding to a significant work of literature, Williams has produced her own spellbinding piece of art’ Clash. ‘Williams draws on vignettes from the semi-autobiographical novel to explore its emotional depths in nine diverse, finely sung songs’ Mojo. ‘William’s delivery is trapped amidst Ed Harcourt’s arrangements, whose depth recalls Calexico and Portishead’ The Independent
