Handel's German Arias and Pepusch, CPE Bach, Pisendel, Telemann
A special tour of this outstanding continental group who have rapidly become known for their energetic and virtuosic performances of programmes combining the great pillars of Europena Baroque and classical music with newly-discovered forgotten compositions which they bring back to today's audiences.
Handel's German Arias are from a small group of works he composed in his native language and still rank among his best-kept secrets, offering some of his most joyous and profound music for solo voice. interwoven is music that surrounded and influenced Handel by JS Bach's dynamic son CPE Bach, fellow expat German and founder of the original Academy of Ancient Music, Pepusch, his old friend and colleague Telemann, and the most important violin virtuoso of the german high baroque, Pisendel.
The group have all studied and worked with distinguished members of an older generation of historically-informed baroque players such as Richard Tunnicliffe and Catherine Mackintosh and includes Katie Stephens who was brought up in Shrewsbury.
They are joined by leading Early Music soprano Ulrike Hofbauer, now also professor of baroque singing and early music at Salzburg University who has performed with almost every major ensemble and orchestra since winning the York Early music Competition on 2003.
