Lyric Festival 2013: The Poetry Business

Ed Reiss’s pamphlet Now Then won the Poetry Business Competition in 2006 judged by Simon Armitage, and his first full collection, Your Sort, was shortlisted for the Aldeburgh Prize. Ed lives in Bradford, where he teaches at the University.

Kim Moore’s pamphlet, If We Could Speak Like Wolves, won the Poetry Business Competition in 2011, judged by Carol Ann Duffy, and was selected as one of The Independent's Books of the Year in 2012. Kim lives in Cumbria, where she is a peripatetic Brass teacher.

Michael Laskey was one of the first ever winners of the Poetry Business Competition, judged by Carol Ann Duffy in 1987. Founder of the Aldeburgh Poetry Festival and editor of Smiths Knoll, Michael is one of Britain’s best-loved poets. Shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize and twice Poetry Book Society Recommendations, his Smith/Doorstop books include an acclaimed selected poems, The Man Alone.

Mimi Khalvati was born in Tehran, grew up on the Isle of Wight, and now lives in London. She has published seven collections with Carcanet, including The Meanest Flower, a Financial Times Book of the Year, shortlisted for the T.S. Eliot Prize; and Child: New and Selected Poems, a PBS Special Commendation. Mimi’s first collection, Persian Miniatures, was published by the Poetry Business twenty three years ago, and tonight sees the launch of its successor, the beautiful pamphlet Earthshine.
