Not Dead Yet Live!: Phil Collins
One of the great British musicians is back performing, returning to the stage for his first live dates in 10 years.
With 100 million record sales to his name, Number 1 albums the world over and songs that have soundtracked millions of lives, Phil Collins is a legend whose work has received growing acclaim as a new generation of artists have discovered and been inspired by an incredible career.
Artists from Adele, to Pharrell, Lorde, Kanye West and Beyoncé have talked of their love for his music in recent times, since Phil announced his retirement from music in 2011. He last toured in 2007.
Phil made his live return at an event for his own Little Dreams Foundation last year, before performing two of his biggest hits at the opening of the US Open tennis in New York in August, inspiring him to announce his first headline tour in a decade.
'I thought I would retire quietly,' says Phil of his return, 'But thanks to the fans, my family and support from some extraordinary artists I have rediscovered my passion for music and performing. It's time to do it all again and I'm excited. It just feels right.'
One the most successful artists of his generation, with more UK Top 40 singles than any other artist of the 1980s, Phil Collins came to prominence first as drummer and then as frontman of Genesis, making his solo debut with 1981's album Face Value, containing smash hit single 'In The Air Tonight.'
This event takes place at FlyDSA Arena, which has achieved Bronze Status for disabled access from Attitude Is Everything.
Child actor, former drummer/vocalist with classic rock giants Genesis and jazz fusion pioneers Brand X, Phil evolved into the multi-platinum selling 'white soul boy' whose albums ruled over the 80s charts. However, it all seemed over when by 2009 he announced he would never be able to play the drums again due to a major spinal injury. He hasn't released an album since 2010's Motown covers collection Going Back and that seemed like it would be his last.
But take a look at him now! Against all odds, in 2015 Collins announced 'I'm no longer officially retired. The horse is out of the stable and I'm raring to go.'
Following a deluxe reissue campaign of some his classic 80's albums, Collins is back playing live, from Hyde Park to the Royal Albert Hall and beyond. He's had to put the drum sticks down, but he's still wowing crowds with the unmistakable voice and his classic songs.
