The Local Honeys hail from Kentucky. Montana Hobbs and Linda Jean Stokley are committed to the preservation of the music they have grown up with, Bluegrass and Appalachian. They are also keen to create something new. Playing fiddle and banjo, their music is a mix of the traditional and the original. They are the first women to graduate from their state university’s degree programme in Traditional ‘Hillbilly’ music.

They are international ambassadors of Appalachian music, and they describe themselves as environmentalists and feminists. Their family backgrounds are firmly rooted in the rural and farming communities of Lee County They are storytellers and musicians, aware of social and environmental issues, and performing and writing songs to highlight these concerns.

The first half will explore the cultural roots and influences behind the duo’s music through conversation and illustrative songs. The second half will be a stirring set of traditional and original songs showcasing the Honeys ability to tear into hard-driving fiddle tunes, sing the high lonesome sound and tell a damn good story.
