A programme of stunning choral works by two composers whose genius has provided some of the most powerful and emotional works in the operatic repertoire. Verdi's Four Sacred Pieces, begin with a reflective Ave Maria which communicates a true sense of drama.
This is followed by a setting of Stabat Mater then Laudi Alla Vergine Maria, a gentle, thoughtful piece scored for women's voices.
The final movement, the Te Deum, has power, intensity, dramatic changes of mood and sublime soaring melody. Puccini's Messa di Gloria, written when he was just eighteen already shows his unmistakable style - inventive and ambitious use of chorus and orchestra and a particularly magnificent tenor aria.
The performance, which includes full orchestra and professional soloists, will be conducted by Robyn Sevastos.
