The Grimethorpe Colliery Band is probably the nation's favourite colliery band with an international reputation for excellence on both the concert and contest stage. The band was formed in 1917 as a leisure activity for the workers at the colliery, by members of the disbanded Cudworth Colliery Band.
Since then it has featured in film, TV and radio and the band is justifiably proud of its history and achievements.
