Trio Martinu was formed at Prague Conservatory in 1990 and originally known as the 'Academia Trio'. Its current line-up (Jaroslav Matejka - cello, Pavel Šafarík - violin, Petr Jiríkovský - piano) has remained unchanged since 1993. From the beginning of its work under the auspices of the Academy of Perforning Arts in Prague, a stage during which the ensemble developed under the guidance of Professor Antonín Kohout (a member of the Smetana Quartet), the Trio has embarked on a trajectory paved with success and awards. These have included semifinal standing in the international competition at Trapani, Italy, third price in the international contest of chamber ensembles at Heerlen, The Netherlands in 1992, and most notably, victory in the same competition three years later, in 1995.
