Our MC tonight is self-confessed comedy geek, Barry Dodds. Barry took to the comedy stage at the tender age of 21 and soon had audiences eating out of the palm of his hand. Using his own contrasting combination of irrepressibly cheeky and surprisingly dark material, he quickly found himself taking the national circuit by storm. Finalist in various high profile competitions such as Jimmy Carr’s Comedy Idol and Jongleurs Last Laugh Comedy Search, his twinkly eyed, playful demeanour disarms judging panels, industry experts and audiences alike, allowing him to flirt coquettishly with topics that are traditionally a little more controversial.
A talented storyteller using whimsical imagery and evocative observations, Barry is an assured closing act, with regular bookings at many of the UK’s top comedy clubs including The Stand, XS Malarkey and The Frog and Bucket. His comedy has even taken him to far flung climbs such as Luxembourg, where his solo show proved so popular he became the first ever comedian to perform on Luxembourg TV.
Our co-headliner Ben Norris is a highly experienced and hugely well-respected stand-up. He’s been performing comedy since 1993 and is renowned for his incredibly relaxed stage persona and his innate ability to improvise as well as deliver sharply crafted material. Other interesting facts about Ben: he’s the cousin of actor Martin Freeman and also the father of triplets (2 girls and a boy). Ben's TV Credits include Mock The Week, Never Mind The Buzzcocks, The Comedy Store and They Think It's All Over.
The term “circuit legend” is overused, but Norris is one of a handful that have been headlining for more than two decades and rarely departs a stage without leaving it torn to shreds in his wake. GQ Magazine
…an acerbic attitude, a well-stocked arsenal of sharp lines and the wherewithal to work any crowd make Norris one of the more engaging and enjoyable comics on the circuit. Chortle
“One of comedy’s original thinkers” Dominic Holland
Take one guitar. Add in a wickedly dry sense of humour and you have one of our absolute Big Mouth faves Andy Askins. With an air of vulnerability and innocent child like qualities masking some dark humour and killer timing, he captivates everybody with an eclectic mix of offbeat comical songs and parodies. Andy was voted Best Live Stand-Up at the 2018 UK Comedy Awards by his fellow comedians.
"Brilliant and unique" John Bishop
"one of my all time favourites" Jason Manford
Our comedian in the middle is Louise Young. Louise has a warmth on stage that engages the audience from the off. Her laid back style gives way to a high rate of wonderfully crafted, razor sharp jokes that have built up her reputation as a strong comic presence.
"Louise Young is dynamite! Intelligent and street smart, she wins the entire room over with wonderfully written jokes, a spellbinding stage presence and the timing of a 20-year pro." Punch Drunk Comedy
