Programme:

Bartok String Quartet No 2
Mendelssohn String Quartet in F minor Op 80
The Heath Quartet is fast earning a reputation as one of the most exciting British chamber ensembles of the moment. Formed in 2002 at the Royal Northern College of Music, they have won numerous prizes and in May 2013 they became the first ensemble in 15 years to win the prestigious Royal Philharmonic Society’s Young Artists Award.
This programme features one of Haydn’s so-called Russian quartets, the folk-centred world of Bartok’s second quartet, and the last major work that Mendelssohn composed, an emotional outpouring in response to the death of his beloved sister Fanny.
