The Alphabet Business Convention
A musical extravaganza to celebrate the legendary cult musician, composer and producer Tim Smith.
Formed in the late seventies, his band Cardiacs were a thrilling combination of punk rock and psychadelic pop. The Alphabet Business Convention is a gathering of affectionate friends, fans and ex-members of Cardiacs performing music to bend and reshape your brain – in a good way!
By extra special request, the evening is headlined by extraordinarily diverse American songwriter, Rob Crow. His band features members of Gong, Knifeworld, Scritti Politti and North Sea Radio Orchestra. This is a very rare UK performance.
William D. Drake performs an eclectic set on his harmonium drawing songs from The Sea Nymphs alongside his own solo work.
Shrubbies, featuring Dominic Luckman on drums, reform especially for the event.
The evening is brought to a close by legendary snooker player and DJ Steve Davis playing a set of interesting alternative music. But it doesn’t end there!
All proceeds go to Tim Smith who suffered a heart attack and two strokes in 2008.

**Please note: unfortunately Shrubbies have been forced to pull out of the convention this year. BUT it has been annouced that Prescott will take their place.

William D Drake
Composer and songwriter William D. Drake and his band are a feast of gorgeous instrumentation, masterful piano, ancient grinding hurdy-gurdy, harmonium, clarinet, guitar, drums… topped with growly vocals and angelic singing. Weaving layers of textured melody with rock undertones, they journey through the surreal and psychedelic, telling curious tales with a sideways humour. William D.Drake was a defining member of the 80s/early 90s line-up of cult band Cardiacs.
