In Conversation With

An opportunity to hear Scotland’s Maker (national poet) Jackie Kay read her newly commissioned poem ’Smith Myth’ and talk about her experiences that informed the poem’s creation.

This poem is part of The Lowry’s ‘30 Days of the Smiths’ commission for the Week 53 festival.

For the commission Jackie interviewed people from across Salford with the surname Smith to build a contemporary picture of the rich characters for her poem. These interview recordings form a central part of the soundscape commission ’30 Days of the Smiths’ by artist Oberman Knocks, which, after official approval from Morrissey and Johnny Marr, also includes snippets of Smiths tracks.
