Trikonanga

Hemabharathy Palani was conferred the ‘Public’s First Choice Award’, for her contemporary solo piece Trikonanga at the Internationales Solo-Tanz-Theater Festival held in Struttgart, Germany in 2013. Subsequently it toured India and Brazil and had sold out performances at the Dance Umbrella Festival in London in October 2015. She also performed the work at the Critical Path in Australia in November 2015. Trikonanga was widely acclaimed by both the audience and the press alike.

Trikonanga explores three essential dimensions that signify Hema's unique movement language and approach to dance. Traversing diverse emotional states with distilled focus and tenderness interrupted by outbursts of energy, the piece combines distinct physicalities of three dance forms - Bharatanatyam, Contemporary dance and Ballet - which are part of the choreographer's journey in dance. Bridging the three pivotal regions of the body-head, navel and toe - the movement leaves traces of triangles in the body and in space.

Alluding to the concept of Navarasa (nine emotional states) from classical Indian dance forms Trikonanga has nine passages and employ the three major devises of enactment – Angika Abhinaya (physical expression), Vachika Abhinaya (Oral expression) and Satvika Abhinaya (inner emotional expression).
