Haydn Symphony No.92 ‘Oxford’
Szymanowski Violin Concerto No.2
Dvo?ák Symphony No.9 ‘New World’

In her second appearance of the season, Nicola Benedetti is linked once again with a composer with whom she is particularly closely associated. Having won the 2004 BBC Young Musician competition with a fiery performance of Szymanowski’s first concerto, here she joins the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra to perform his ravishing second concerto. An ideal showcase for Benedetti’s incisive attack and meltingly sweet tone, this work combines energetic passages of march-like triumphalism with moments of delicate lyricism. The concert also includes one of the most popular symphonies of all – Dvo?ák’s Symphony from the New World, inspired by the dynamism and energy of New York.
