Be My Baby
A Mother and Baby Home in the North of England, 1964. We follow the fortunes of Mary Adams, aged 19, unmarried and seven months pregnant. She tries to cope with the shame of an unwanted pregnancy, the need to keep up appearances, the dawning realisation that the baby will be given up for adoption whether she likes it or not...
Amanda Whittington's 1998 play is seen as a modern classic. As we follow the fortunes of Mary and Dolores, Norma and the cynical Queenie and their escape through the Girl Band pop hits of the era we are reminded of the bond between mother and child and the searing pain of loss and separation.
