The Diary Of Anne Frank
By Frances Goodrich & Albert Hackett
Adapted by Wendy Kesselman
Directed by Barry Kearns
The Diary Of Anne Frank remains the single most poignant true life story to have emerged from the second world war. This is the transcendently powerful recent adaptation for the stage.
The compelling portrait of an intensely gifted teenage girl, who confronts her rapidly changing life and the increasing horror of her time with astonishing honesty, wit and determination.
The play captures the claustrophobic realities of the daily existence of the eight jewish inhabitants hiding in a storage attic from the Nazis in occupied Holland. Anne’s writes “When I write I shake off all my cares. But I want to achieve more than that. I want to be useful and bring enjoyment to all people, even those I’ve never met. I want to go on living even after my death!"
As we move towards the inevitable fate of our heroine we are reminded never to forget one of the darkest chapters in human history.
Due to the subject matter, this play is not recommended for young children and will contain smoking.
Please note: the performances on 16 and 17 June are charity previews.
