Hay Fever By Noël Coward
Coward’s ‘comedy of manners’, Hay Fever was written in 1924, and first performed in 1925 at the Ambassadors Theatre. Having stood the test of time, with performances still drawing crowds in the West End 90 years later, the action takes place in the country home of the dysfunctional Bliss family, and is a play with no plot, and no punchlines, but is nevertheless hilariously funny. Unbeknown to the other household members, each one of the four Blisses invites an unsuspecting guest for the weekend, and are all furious when they find out about the other visitors. The weekend that follows culminates in the outrageous hosts behaving so badly that the callers are forced to take action.
