From 1983 to 2005, Reading-based Stuart Henderson was a leading trumpet player in Her Majesty’s Household Division and during that time performed at venues worldwide and at every state occasion in London.
He performed as a soloist and band leader many times for the Royal Family and World Heads of State. Since leaving the services in 2005 he has become a fixture on the jazz scene appearing with icons such as Peter King, Don Weller, Art Themen, David Newton and Michael Feinstein.
He leads his own quintet and trio, directs the remix jazz orchestra and is a member of the quartet Extemporize. His commercial work includes the Showbiz Pops Orchestra and Nick Heyward.
Greek saxophonist Vasilis Xenopoulos showed great potential from the very early stages of his student years and gained a great deal of experience by playing with some of the top names in the Greek jazz scene. His explosive style means he is in great demand as a saxophone player for popular music and as a session musician.
The quintet is completed by a great local trio led by Simon Price on drums with Pete Billington on piano and Raph Misraki on bass.
Jazz at Progress is presented in association with Jazz in Reading.
