Sister Act

Sister Act is based on the 1992 Whoopi Goldberg hit film of the same name. Music is by Oscar winning Alan Menken (The Little Mermaid, Beauty and the Beast, Aladdin, Pocahontas, Little Shop of Horrors), book by Bill and Cheri Steinkellner with additional material by Douglas Carter Beane and lyrics by Glenn Slater.
?
Deloris is having an affair with her Mafia Boss, Curtis. Her career as a singer in Las Vegas is going nowhere and Curtis won’t divorce his wife so she goes to him to break it off, witnessing a murder Curtis just ordered. Running from the club, she seeks police protection.

They agree to hide her in the one place Curtis would never look for her. She finds, to her chagrin, that it is a convent, where she must impersonate a nun. After several false starts, she is assigned to the convent’s dismal choir. She challenges and reorganizes them to become a modern, hip singing group.

As the choir gets better, success brings its own problems. She is interviewed on T.V. which alerts the mob to her whereabouts, and the chase is back on.

Once again Reading Operatic Society promises to deliver an evening of sheer delight. Slick and witty choreography by Gemma Hough and pacey direction from Director Jennifer Scott get the habits flying and booties shaking with comic invention.

Neil Matthews as Musical Director delivers pitch perfect musical numbers full of joy and sparkle of the disco beat of the 70’s.
