Rise Of The Yam-Yam

Please note: Info provided by the Event Organiser

Doreen will prove Black Country humour travels in her trip to Peterborough.

Doreen Tipton is a name quickly spreading across the nation. A character with roots firmly in the Black Country, she is being pulled away to foreign climes, and the first territory to bag her is Peterborough. It’s a timely move, as Ents24, the UK’s largest live guide, has just published their top 20 list of rising comedy stars, based on pure public demand and their tracking figures, and Doreen is well up that list.

The date for your diaries is Thursday 9th November. Doreen will be bringing her new show, “Rise of the Yam-Yam” to the newly relaunched The Broadway. A ‘Yam-Yam’ is the slang name that Brummies (people from Birmingham) give to their counterparts in the Black Country, but the humour in the show has smashed down borders, as the number of views of her videos on YouTube and social media, and the associated national and even international comments, have proven. Last year’s show, “Doreen’s Grand Night Out” was a complete sell-out, and this year’s tour is well on the way to beating that record. Indeed, the 1,200 seats of The Grand Theatre in Wolverhampton sold out within about 24 hours. Please note this show contains adult humour and occasional strong language, and is recommended only for ages 16+.

Already in 2017 she has been crowned Best Newcomer at the Great British Panto Awards in London. She was also voted the What’s On Midlands Entertainment Personality of the Year by readers of that magazine.

Of the What’s On award, Doreen said: “That was incredible, because of who I was up against. It’s an honour to be thought of in the same breath as the other four finalists. Julie Walters is a personal favourite of mine because I'm a big fan of the Harry Potplant films, Bev Knight is a musical legend, and the bloke from Citizen Khan is apparently on the telly in a BBC comedy that they're really proud of, so I'm assuming he must be funny. I hadn't heard of Sir Lenny Henry, but he's obviously one to watch. So yes, I feel blessed to have beaten them hands-down."

She also had plenty to say about her impending visit east, including “Where the hell is Peterborough?” and concerns that inhabitants from the local Whittlesey Straw Bear Festival might turn on her and sacrifice her to save the harvest.

In “Rise of the Yam-Yam”, the Comedy Queen of the Black Country sets out to challenge Darwin with her very own Theory of Evolution, with a unique mixture of stand-up, sit-down, video surprises and unforgettable music.

The Stourbridge News said of her stage shows: "The brilliantly-written Black Country creation keeps audience members absolutely enthralled, entertained and in stitches with her natural stage presence, charm and quick wit."

Doors open 6:30pm. Bar open all day.
