Warpaint and frills held together with a Band Aid at The Broadway...

‘To cut a long story short’… are you ‘Hungry like the wolf’ to ‘try another flavour’ with a 1980s Christmas bashette?

On Friday 22nd December, the clocks warp back to party like it’s 1989, as The Broadway hits 88mph going Back To The 80s. While there’s no promise of Marty McFly or Emmett Brown, the fun will feature a diverse range of music including genres from New Romantic to Mod, Glam Metal to Alternative Rock, Post Punk to Goth, all plucked from an era where Band Aid was the pinnacle of the decade.

Whether it’s ‘Antmusic’ or Spandau Ballet, expect a flyby from A Flock of Seagulls as we get ‘The Reflex’ with Duran Duran. If you’re a ‘Loadsamoney’, part of a group of ‘Ghostbusters’, or even a ‘Karma Chameleon’, the Definite Article in Entertainment has something ‘Especially for You’.

This is one of four era-themed party events in the run-up to Christmas at The Broadway. It will be ‘(Just Like) Starting Over’, as the venue keeps everything going ‘All Night Long (All Night)’. Just when your ‘Baggy Trousers’ slip, don’t forget ‘When The Going Gets Tough (The Tough Get Going)’, especially if you want some ‘Fame’.

Dress to impress in your best 1980s outfits and bring out your most sensational dance moves inspired by Japan, Berlin, Europe, and ‘Vienna’! We might even call for The Police or The Specials, but definitely NOT Joe Dolce or The Goombay Dance Band!

Marketing Director of The Broadway, Alex Geairns, will assume his stage name of alex:g once more, as he orchestrates the music on offer. “I spent the entire 1980s as a DJ, both in residencies and with a mobile kit, and I can’t wait to stick to that era for all the tracks played during Back to the 80s. As far as I am concerned, music died when the decade came to a close with ‘Ride on Time’ by Black Box getting to number one. It featured a woman who sounds like she is impersonating The Great Gonzo from The Muppets, and it still sets my teeth on edge. That was when I hung up my headphones in disgust. It’s become a perfect line in the sand; everything played at the party will be from before that point.”

Starting at 8:00pm, this event will be the perfect end to a ‘Fantastic Day’, and it’s only ‘Love & Pride’ if you don’t ‘Wanna be Startin’ Somethin’’.
