The Rise and Fall of Little Voice Drama Workshop

Both stylistically and thematically, modern regional theatre such as the work of Jim Cartwright,Willy Russell, John Godber and others is rarely explored as a genre all of its own, yet its individuality deserves recognition. Actors and directors regularly come up against the challenge of taking on a piece with a powerful regional tone, and, in “Playing with Northern Drama”, Assembled Junk will help beginner actors or those new to working with Northern plays to understand how to embrace that quality. The company is offering actors the opportunity to take part in this tailor-made workshop, which will provide:

- The opportunity to explore the sense of belonging inherent in works that are “tied” to particular regions.

- Exercises speci?cally designed to rid any inhibitions that may occur when performing in an unfamiliar and often exposing genre of theatre.

- A platform for performers to showcase their own abilities for which they can receive constructive feedback if they so wish.

- A practical study and comparison of other “northern voices” such as Willy Russell, Alan Bennett and John Godber through scene work.

- Improvisation exercises which explore the theme of belonging and the idea of a personal and societal connection to a particular “place”.
