The Nightingale And The Rose
'If you want a red rose,' said the tree, 'you must build it out of music by moonlight, and stain it with your own heart’s blood.'
What is love and what should we sacrifice for it? When a young student falls head-overheels, the only way to win his heart’s desire is to give her the reddest rose in the world. All seems lost until a nightingale hears the student’s lament; to what ends will the little bird go to help love succeed?
Oscar Wilde’s short story is adapted by students Bea Udale-Smith and Georgia Heneage. It combines the emotional intensity of Wilde’s language with ensemble physical theatre.
