Fiddle Workshop

Rowan has been playing the fiddle since she was a small child. Growing up just outside Sheffield, she mainly played English and Scottish repertoire in sessions and dance bands until an interest in Scandinavian tunes led her to study for a year at a music school in Sweden in 2008.

After studying for a degree in Sociology at Newcastle University, Rowan has now returned to Sheffield and teaches privately as well as at festivals and runs regular day-long workshops locally on many aspects of playing traditional fiddle music.

This workshop will draw on some of Rowan's extensive repertoire of traditional English, Scandinavian and Old-time American fiddle tunes while looking at various aspects of playing this music, including: bowing technique, exploring rhythms and harmony, playing together, playing for dancing, learning by ear, practising and performing, playing with confidence as well as how to maintain and look after our instruments. The workshop will be designed to suit a range of levels, but will not be suitable for beginners.
