Arts & Crafts Activity Sessions

The Education Team at the National Coal Mining Museum for England are offering daily activity sessions for organised children’s groups this summer from 20 July to 4 September. In a bid to enhance holiday clubs such as Cub Scouts, play-schemes and other out-of-school groups, the Museum has put together a programme of themed craft activities to keep the kids busy during the summer months. The weekly themes will cover a broad range of topics including pit ponies, rugby and miners’ holidays, ensuring there is something for everyone to enjoy.

In addition to these dedicated workshops, groups can extend their visit by discovering the world of mining with a special guide tour, 140m underground. When it’s time to resurface, wander around the Museum’s galleries and take a look at the special exhibition, The Path of the Ponies. Visitors can also explore the picturesque nature trail, before meeting resident pit ponies Eric and Ernie and giant Clydesdale Horse, Finn.

The workshops will cater for groups up to 30 children and must be booked in advance.

Groups wishing to take part in an underground tour are subject to a £20.00 group booking fee, plus £3.00 per head refundable deposit for a pit-check, payable at Reception on arrival.
