Dispatches On The Red Dress

Please note: Info provided by the Event Organiser

'Dispatches on The Red Dress' is a deeply connecting, intimate and courageous new live show by twice BBC Radio 2 Folk Award winner Rowan Rheingans (Lady Maisery, The Rheingans Sisters) who invites you to spend this Remembrance Sunday in a life-affirming musical reflection of history. Adventurous new writing delivered with warmth and compassion characterizes this heartfelt and personal one woman show, uniquely weaving immersive storytelling and poetry with live fiddle, banjo and original songs from Rowan's genre-melding debut solo album 'The Lines We Draw Together' that accompanies this wistful artist’s solo tour."Sublime show that celebrates family, nature and the ties that bind, goes on to pack a fierce political punch." - The Guardian ****"A beautiful allegory for how the survivors deal with historical atrocity..., horror and beauty co-exist and the titular red dress becomes an eloquent symbol of resilience, but also how the prejudices of the past are sewn into the celebrations of the present." - The List"…vivid songwriting…" - Mark Radcliffe, BBC Radio 2Inspired by Rowan's German grandmother's stories of childhood under the Nazi regime, it is a poignant anti-war piece, which questions our collective handling of 'dark histories' in the present day while shining a light on small acts of resistance, transformation, human empathy and hope.Rowan's first solo show has been crafted with dramaturg Liam Hurley (Karine Polwart's Wind Resistance) and the result is a live experience that sits somewhere between the intimacy and honesty of a folk gig and the more complex, multi-layered textures of innovative theatre. Practically, the show is beautifully simple, inviting the audience into an intimate shared space: just Rowan, her instruments (fiddle, viola, banjos, guitar) and her arresting yet natural and inclusive singing and storytelling voice. As a testimony to Rowan's reputation as one of the foremost composers and innovators on today's folk scene, this project has been funded by grants from Arts Council England, PRS Women Make Music and the English Folk Dance & Song Society. Rowans solo album is due for release on 23rd August 2019.More about Rowan: www.rowanrheingans.co.uk
