An Evening With Julian Clary
Spend an evening with comedian, entertainer, and writer Julian Clary as he shares hilarious tales (or should that be tails?!) from his new memoir, The Lick of Love.
Live for one night only, Julian will take us on a tour of his colourful life - and wherever life has taken him, Julian has had a dog by his side. From Fanny the Wonder Dog, who came into Julian's life when he was somewhat adrift, propelled him up the ranks of the alternative comedy circuit and onto television, to Albert, a jaunty geezer type who was sent to acclimatise Julian to middle age and helped him seduce his now husband, these canine characters have been there, bearing witness, on and off stage.
In conversation, Julian will also share hilarious and thought-provoking anecdotes from his life and career – encounters in seedy London nightclubs, finding success on television with Sticky Moments, a narrow squeak with a thwarted eastern European plot to kidnap him, his move to the country, and finally settling down, falling in love and getting married.
This is a story of a fascinating life and a love letter to the dogs that have played a loving and near constant part of it.
With his trademark humour and great honesty, this is a fabulously entertaining evening with the master of camp comedy you do not want to miss.
The event will be recorded and broadcast via Fane Online on 12 October. Worldwide viewing is available and the stream will be available for one week on demand after the initial broadcast, so you can watch at anytime if the initial broadcast time doesn't suit your timezone.
Please note: All live stream events are subject to change. Not all events listed are live performances by the artist - they also include archived concerts, DJ sets, masterclasses, Q&As and more.
One of the most distinctive comics in the early days of alternative comedy, then an 'overnight success' through his iconoclastic Channel 4 game show Sticky Moments, Julian Clary has spent 30 years in show business dividing his time between radio and television, films and stage as an actor, entertainer, presenter and writer. Although he claims nowadays to enjoy the life of a country gentleman in his 16th century farmhouse, he can't resist the lure of live performance. Of course, expects a warm hand on his arrival... Ooh, naughty! 'Lots of camp smut and double entendres... doesn't disappoint... he was side-splittingly hilarious' (Daily Mirror) 'His persona of camp superciliousness is effortlessly amusing... Clary's genius is to find sexual suggestion where the rest of us wouldn't think of looking' (The Guardian) 'The audience – gay, straight, young, old – loved Clary and it was easy to see why' (Evening Standard).
