Oakham Choral Society, Oakham Orchestra

This term’s Choral Society concert has a Germanic theme, including notable music by Romantic composers Bruch and Mendelssohn. The major work is by an Englishman, however, who was inspired to compose From the Bavarian Highlands after an enjoyable holiday in Upper Bavaria in 1894. Both music and lyrics (by the composer’s wife) are an attractive reflection of the folk music of the region.
