MERRY HELL
Merry Hell are a six-piece acoustic Folk/Rock band founded on the ever-evolving Folk tradition – music made by the people and shared by the people. Five albums and nine years on the road constantly gigging, have meant these guys have served their apprenticeship and are ready and eager to take Grayshott Village Hall by storm. As big festival favourites, they'll send us all into our Summer break with a skip in our steps and a smile on our faces.
"A rocking rollicking afternoon was had in the company of Merry Hell who rattled the windows and raised the roof of a packed Half Moon, Putney, with a set that got the audience joining in, in a way London audiences normally don't. It was a cracking show; Merry Hell are a must-see band because they have everything you could want. There are the party songs like "Baker's Daughter" and "Bury Me Naked" along with anthems like "Lean On Me Love", but what sets them apart is the social conscience to their songs. They aren't really protest songs but "Come On England" expresses a desire for the kind of society that we'd all like to see, which isn't based on division. Even "The Butcher And The Vegan" has the message that our differences don't need to drive us apart.
Of course, being family there's that ease in each others' presence, the jokes and stories and a real joie de vivre which supports some fine musicians and excellent writing from both Bob and Virginia, whose "Emerald Green" is capable of bringing a tear, even to the hardest-hearted. If you've never seen them live do yourself a favour and put that right as soon as possible."
Tony Birch, reviewing a gig at The Half Moon, Putney 10th March 2019.

The six-piece Merry Hell are: John, Bob and Andrew Kettle (Guitar, Mandolin and Vocals), along with Nick Davies (Bass), Virginia Kettle (Vocals) and their outstanding Fiddler, Neil McCartney.
We've also had news that Merry Hell went down a storm recently at The End Of The Pier Festival, in Cromer Norfolk, one of many festivals they are playing at this year. Don't miss them!

Merry Hell were winners of the folking.com Band of The Year Award for a second time in 2019.

+ Dean Dyson You may have seen Dean busking in Guildford High Street, in Chichester or Winchester. You may even have seen him recently on TV (if you didn't blink!). Now's your chance to see him live on stage at Grayshott, performing some of his self-penned, original material.
