Join the BBC Concert Orchestra, presenter Stuart Maconie, conductor Joe Duddell and a superb line-up of singers for this stomping celebration of British club culture, bringing a symphonic edge to the beats that took English towns across the industrial North and Midlands by storm in the 1960s and 1970s. What began as a celebration of forgotten American soul B-sides became a euphoric release at all-night dances for factory workers.

Now celebrating a half century of broadcasting, this versatile orchestra varies its range from classical works and grand opera to light music and popular songs. They are regular performers at the Last Night of the Proms and their wide-ranging and eclectic repertoire can be heard on Radio and TV, including The Blue Planet soundtrack and Proms in the Park and on the concert platform with artists such as The Corrs, Nigel Kennedy and José Cura.
Stuart Maconie
Radio presenter, writer, journalist and critic. He co-hosts the Radcliffe and Maconie Show on BBC Radio 2, and presents his own show (Freak Zone) on BBC 6 Music.
Stuart is also a respected author and the UK's best-selling travel writer of non-TV tie-in books and his Pies And Prejudice was one of 2008's top selling paperbacks. His other books include Adventures on The High Teas and Cider with Roadies.
In Hope and Glory, Stuart goes in search of the places, people and events that have shaped modern Britain.
Joe Duddell
Joe Duddell has always divided his time & passion equally between alternative and classical music. Shortly after his band Pullover caught the eye of label Fierce Panda, he went to study composition with Steve Martland - the only composer to be exclusively signed to Factory Records – at the Royal Academy of
Music. After composing for, amongst others, Colin Currie through the '00s, Joe orchestrated and conducted the now legendary collaboration between Elbow and The Halle Orchestra in Manchester and has since released his first CD of chamber music.
