Dispatches From The Diaspora: From Nelson Mandela To Black Lives Matter, With Gary Younge
Please note: Info provided by the Event Organiser
We welcome Gary Younge to tell us more about the state of the nation(s). Gary’s talk will range through civil rights, international politics and personal experience to provide a thematically diverse yet interconnected portrait of the last thirty years.
Whether it be his meditations on civil rights or his reflections on his travels around the world, his determination to address the silences and challenge received narratives are the hallmarks of his superb work.
For the last three decades Gary Younge has had a ringside seat during the biggest events and with the most significant personalities to impact the black diaspora: accompanying Nelson Mandela on his first election campaign, joining revellers on the southside of Chicago during Obama’s victory, entering New Orleans days after hurricane Katrina or interviewing Archbishop Desmond Tutu, Maya Angelou and Stormzy. He has witnessed how much change is possible and the power of systems to thwart those aspirations.
The talk coincides with his new book published a few days after this event but we will have advance copies.
