Shostakovich Symphony no.12 "The Year 1917"
Shostakovich completed his Twelfth Symphony in 1961, dedicating it to the memory of Lenin and packing it with stirring themes inspired by the songs and events of the Bolshevik Revolution.
Clarinet virtuoso Matthew Hunt plays Copland's jazzy Concerto, fired by the rhythms of Rio de Janeiro and an early work by Rachmaninov who emigrated to the USA in 1917 is the link between East and West.
