Fresh from the triumphant success of The Creation, Haydn assembled his forces for an even more ambitious oratorio. In The Seasons the composer lets his imagination run riot, with a rousing hunting chorus, a wine feast, peasant dances, a spectacular thunderstorm and a harvest thanksgiving prayer in celebration of the countryside and the good life.
