Sun Ra Arkestra

In the year of their 60th anniversary and on the release of their new albumBabylon Liveon In and Out Records, welcome the Sun Ra Arkestra to Norwich to celebrate and recognise the impact of the band on the sound and evolution of avant-garde jazz.

For more than half a century, the Sun Ra Arkestra has been an institution for the mediation of jazz history, beginning with the darkest blues up to the most audacious musical pioneer work in the field of free jazz and way beyond into the infinite cosmic distances of the ‘Omniversum’.

When you listen to their vast collection of recordings, you appreciate that their performances include all styles in jazz history. Musical Director of the Arkestra, 90 year-old Marshall Allen, was Sun Ra’s most faithful companion and is now in his 58th year of continuous activity within the Arkestra; 21years longer than Sun Ra himself.
