Traps Of The Fairytales With Anna Ivanova-Brashinskaya

Most puppet theatre is based on fairytales and myths. Ironically, this type of literature can be among the least dramatic. The purpose of this masterclass is to navigate potential future fairytale stage-adaptors through the hidden reefs and shallow waters of this myth material.

Traps of the Fairytales masterclass consists of a theoretical part and practical assignments, executed individually and in small groups. Participants will explore

Dramatising the 'too-good-to-be-true' characters
The question of the narrator and wordless storytelling
The danger of supernatural resolutions for dramatic conflicts
Anna Ivanova-Brashinskaya graduated from the Theatre Studies Department of the Saint-Petersburg Theatre Arts Academy, where she remained first as a graduate and post-graduate student, then as an instructor, and ultimately as a Chairwoman of the Puppetry Department. Since 2001 she has worked as an Instructor and Program Manager at the Turku, Finland. She has worked as a stage director since 2009 creating a number of puppetry and visual theatre productions in Poland, France, Lithuania, Russia and Finland. Her production of Meteo, based on the Ray Bradbury short story, has received The Golden Cross For Best puppet show in Vilnius, Lithuania. Along with continuing directing and teaching, she is presently at work on a book devoted to the various languages of puppetry.

This masterclass is for professional and practicing theatre makers, puppeteers and performers.
