King Lear
Northern Broadsides are set to return to the New Vic this May with a critically acclaimed production of King Lear directed by Jonathan Miller.
Following the success of his first collaboration with Northern Broadsides, Rutherford & Son, opera and theatre director Miller brings King Lear to the New Vic from Wednesday 27 May to Saturday 13 June.
King Lear is the story of a family at war with itself. Northern Broadsides founder and artistic director, Barrie Rutter, plays the aging and deeply flawed Lear who wrecks his relationship with his three daughters and in doing so, loses everything.
Rutter is joined by a 14 strong cast, including John Branwell (Arrival and Departures, Stephen Joseph Theatre); Andy Cryer (The Hundred and One Dalmatians, New Vic); Fine Time Fontayne (Love’s Labour’s Lost, New Vic and Northern Broadsides); Manchester Theatre award winner Catherine Kinsella (Rutherford & Son, Northern Broadsides; Love’s Labour’s Lost, New Vic and Northern Broadsides); Nicola Sanderson (Law and Order UK) and Helen Sheals (Downton Abbey, ITV).
