Dutch Uncles to perform opening gig for New Mills Festival 2017
Whether you go on your own, with friends or “go Dutch”, be sure not to miss out on this unique opportunity of seeing local band, Dutch Uncles on their home turf, kicking off New Mills Festival in style. The art pop band from Marple will headline at New Mills Art Theatre on Saturday September 9th. With the unique vocals of frontman Duncan Wallis and pop synth about turns that make this band so unique, it is sure to be yet another sell out.
With a new album, Big Balloon, released in February and reportedly the bands finest album to date, the music takes listeners on an exhilarating cerebral journey that marks them out as one of the UK’s most consistently forward thinking bands. Taking musical inspiration from Kate Bush’s, David Bowie and east European techno, it is the fifth Dutch Uncles’ studio album and the follow-up to the acclaimed O Shudder. The album was recorded in Manchester’s old Granada TV studios where Sex Pistols and Joy Division made their televisual debuts.
The band have toured the UK and Europe over the last few years with appearances at Reading and Leeds Festivals, BBC 6 Music Festival and stage headline slots at Bestival and Latitude, They have headlined shows at the Koko in London and The Ritz in Manchester, supported Garbage on the European leg of their 20 Years Queer anniversary tour and this year will be playing at Glastonbury on the Williams Green stage.
Originally from Marple the band now play throughout the UK and Europe so this is a great chance to see them close to home.
They will be ably supported by CAMENS, an indie/alternative four piece from Staffordshire. Their debut single on Ugly Man Records will be the first new music released by the band since the death of their former manager and champion Kelvin Knight.
To give locals, and those willing to travel, first choice of the front row seats in the iconic 500 seater venue, tickets will go on sale first at New Mills Carnival on Sat 10th June, in person only. Remaining seats will then be available online from Monday 12th June at www.newmillsfestival.co.uk
If previous years are anything to go by sales will be extremely lively so anyone hoping for front row seats would be wise to join the queue!
