Carol Ann Duffy DBE is Britain’s first female poet laureate, appointed in 2009. She received a Somerset Maugham Award in 1987, The Lannan Literary Award in 1995 and the EM Forster Award in 2000. Her poems address issues such as oppression, gender and violence in an accessible language that has made them popular in schools.
