Kather's Kitchen

Kather will be wowing us again with her delicious recipes, showing us how to make them and providing some tasters.

Kather’s love of food and cooking began on the Derbyshire farm where she grew up. A far cry from today’s many monoculture farms, it comprised a Holstein Friesian dairy herd and a flock of 150 sheep as well as pigs, chickens and a vast kitchen garden. This early introduction to farming gave Kather an appreciation of good ingredients and a firm understanding of what goes into their production. In the kitchen, Kather had two obvious mentors: her mother, who is a truly talented cook, and her grandfather, who was a superlative fish and game cook and taught Kather how to cook game and cure fish. Kather did the Essential Cookery Course at the Grange in Somerset before heading to Northern Kenya to work in a game lodge. Kather went on to hone her cookery demonstration skills with 5 years as a Pampered Chef consultant in Wales and the South West, doing hundreds of cooking shows from smaller private shows for 20 or so people up to much larger events in public venues. Through the demos, Kather met and talked to many people about cooking and has cooked in numerous kitchens, giving her a unique and invaluable insight into the kinds of recipes people want to learn and how cooking fits into their lives. This provided the perfect springboard for establishing Kather’s Kitchen to run cookery courses and do demos & talks. In 2011, Kather appeared on ITV’s Britain’s Best Dish with her starter winning the South West & Wales final. In 2012, Kather started cooking for Kate Humble at her rural skills farm and running pop-up dinners there. The sell-out pop-ups have proved a huge success and are now popping up at other venues too! One of Kather’s pop-up dinners was recently filmed by the BBC.
